The controversial Richard C. and his Wild Rags Label seem to polarize members of the metal community.  Love him or hate him, he was definitely dedicated to the underground scene.  After hearing their 1987 demo, most of the other labels (Steamhammer, Combat, New Renaissance, Roadracer) wanted to hear more material.  At the time, GAMMACIDE didn't want to fool around with another demo, they wanted to put something in the stores!  Wild Rags gave GAMMACIDE the chance and Victims of Science became their top selling release.  Victims was one of the first Wild Rags releases to have a full color cover, along with a lyric sheet and poster.  It was also the label's first release with a UPC barcode, which enabled it to be stocked by record chain stores like Sound Warehouse.  Richard C resisted this move, and also was opposed to the CD format, claiming that these were signs of "selling out" or "commercialism".  However, Rick got the UPC stickers printed up himself, they were affixed to the shrink wrap on the LPs and tapes, and GAMMACIDE made it to the chain stores.  Rick could never talk Richard into releasing the GAMMACIDE LP on CD, although later Wild Rags releases were.  Here is some info on Wild Rags releases courtesy of Nuclear Abominations.

WILD RAGS!

Country: USA - California
Details: Those many rockers who had the luck of dealing with Richard Cee know this fundamental label from California, lead by the charicmatic Mr.Cee, label already dead for over two years. The points that made Wild Rags so special was indeed the incredible amount of material spawned for dozen of years including among many others, ultra-important acts like IMPETIGO, ORDER FROM CHAOS, BLASPHEMY and NUCLEAR DEATH, all in a completely underground fashion. Dick used to answer every letter in the same day he received it, keeping literally thousands of contacts alive with a dedication which will NEVER had any equals in the future. Here is ju7st the official list of releases from 1987 on but keep in mind this shop was already open ever since the 70's. As Richard once used to say in an interview, he used to see the kids skateboarding in front of his shop, kids whhich later turned up playing in a band called TERRORIZER. The importance of this label for heavy music is undeniable.
